

River Mint
River Mint brings familiarity to the world of bush food. Native to South-Eastern Australia, you can find this delicious plant hiding in moist forests and around rivers, giving the name River Mint. It's a pleasant mint, that won't take over your backyard, and extends up to 80cm high and 1m across. Other names include Native Peppermint and Australian Mint.
Health Benefits:
As with all mint species, River Mint has been identified as a powerful herbal medicine thought to help improve general wellbeing. Some of the facinating properties include:
- Carminative propeties which help to ease the stomach, and to relieve esophageal pressure and heartburn.
- Natural anti-septic
- Fever reduction and may help to relieve congrestion of the common cold.
Origin:
Found exclusively across South-Eastern Australia, River Mint is a native species that has started to gain traction as a delicious additive in many dishes. Our River Mint is organically grown in Gippsland, Victoria by experience permaculturalists.
Culinary Uses:
River Mint has a similar flavour to spearmint and peppermint. It is commonly used in Middle-Eastern styled dishes, and as well as in desserts. Great uses include:
- Persian styled stew (Khoresh)
- Cheesecakes
- Mint Icecreams
- Basil/River Mint Pesto
Most commonly however, River Mint is used as a herbal tea to provide benefits and flavour on a cold, winters day.
