FAQs

Can this grow in pots?

Yes! They're great pot plants and like to climb making them a great climber for apartments.

Where is this plant indigenous to?

South-eastern Australia

What soil should I use?

For all of our plants, we recommend using Osmocote Premium Potting Mix (orange bag) or equivalent. Any soil without fillers or added fertilizers can work too.

What fertilizer should I use?

If grown in a pot, using a native fertilizer should do the trick. They like low-phosphorus, so normal fertilizer might not do.

Can you ship it to me?

We ship everywhere except WA, TAS, SA and the NT. For other countries, please check local quarantine laws for more information.

I'm buying for a school, how do I order?

That's amazing! Feel free to order directly from our website, otherwise if you need anymore help get in touch over email hello@melbournebushfood.com.au

Do you wholesale the plants?

Unfortunately we don't wholesale plants due to a limit in supply.

Billardiera scandens or cymosa

A fantastic native plant that produces delicious apple-textured berries. Their flavour is described as somewhere between stewed apples and kiwifruit.

It's a beautiful plant which makes an excellent climber, or ground cover.

Clusters of bright bell-shaped pink flowers come during spring, offering nectar to bees and other important insects.

When ripe (purple-yellow colour), they are edible off the plant. However, if green you can roast them too. Great as a snack, for jams, tarts, cakes, or preserving.

Apple Berry

Hey MBF - you're as impatient as me! What WILL they be like!? haha! My plants arrived quickly and in beautiful condition and managed to wait a few weeks in the tube stock pot to be transferred to a bigger pot. They are thriving in this wet and mild Brisbane summer in a 50% shaded part of my garden. Thanks guys! I will take good care of them. Promise.

How To Grow

There isn't a "Growing native bushfoods for dummies" book. That's because they're easy to grow and care for if you know what to do. We've partnered with ecologists, horticulturalists and botanists to give you the best care for your plants.
