Size & Care

Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia citriodora) is the perfect fit for your home garden, it produces clusters of creamy white flowers during summer and the leaves are bright green with a strong lemony scent. It is native to the subtropical rainforests of central and south-eastern Queensland.


Size - Lemon Myrtle plants can grow very tall, they grow to a height of up to 8m tall and 5m wide.


Soil Type - Prefers slightly acidic and neutral soils with a good drainage system.


Frost Tolerance - Lemon Myrtle can survive in areas with light frosts.


Watering - Lemon Myrtle plant is drought tolerant hence regular watering can be done. Ensure the soil is completely dry before watering.


Sunshine and Shade Requirements - Prefers full sun but can do fairly well in partial shade.


Fertilizing - To boost it’s general performance, give a pinch of a general fertilizer over summer.


Uses - They’re perfect for screening, informal hedging and are a low maintenance species. It can be used on both sweet and savoury dishes. Its deep-green fresh leaves are aromatic, and are the perfect compliment to a refreshing drink.


Harvesting - Harvesting can be done any time of the year except during the wet season, it is done by plucking the soft tips of the plant.


Cultivation - Pruning can be done to control growth of the plant and to give the plant shape, Mulching is recommended during adverse weather conditions. If the plant is attacked by pests, spray Neem oil on the attacked areas.

Can you ship it to me?
