Lilly Pilly Plant FAQ's 🌱

Lilly Pilly is a hardy tree that can easily be grown as a great windbreak, hedge or garden ornament.

It produces an abundance of crispy pink/purple fruits with the same crunch as an apple during winter to late spring.

The fruit is slightly acidic and sweet and the tartness makes them perfect for jellies, jams, or cakes. Left to ferment, Lilly Pilly produce excellent vinegar with super fruity notes.

Water more during warmer seasons. If growing in large scale, a timed drip system would be great.

Lilly Pillys grow best in full sun but don’t mind being in moderate shade. It is best to avoid windy locations, particularly in their infancy. Make sure to keep the plant watered, particularly in hotter weather.

Dig the planting hole twice as wide and to the same depth as the root ball. Always water in well after planting to settle the soil around the roots and keep the soil moist for several weeks while the new plant is established.

It’s a small shrub/tree that can grow up to 3-5 metres in height if left unpruned.

The tree produces small round pink/purple fruits during winter to summer that you can eat straight off the bush, however, if you want to get the most out of the berry, we would recommend you make it into a delicious jam.
Underneath the surface, the thin, white flesh is distinctly crisp with an aqueous, airy, cotton-like consistency. Some consumers compare the berry's crispness to the succulent nature of eating a nashi pear. Depending on the variety, the flesh may also be seedless or contain a pea-size hard seed. Lilly Pilly berries emit a clove-like aroma and are mildly acidic with a sweet-tart, musky, and metallic flavour.
