Murnong (𝘔𝘪𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘢) is a tuberous native yam which has a distinct nutty-taste when roasted.

Very easy to grow, producing beautiful, yellow flowers. A staple food source for many Aboriginal communities across southern Australia, it was became nearly extinct through the introduction of grazing.

Once very prevalent across Victoria, it is now endangered and can sometimes be found in secluded woodlands.

Plant Size: Seedling pot, min 8 cm tall
Frost Tolerance: Once established.
Drought Tolerance: Once established.
Soil Type: Well-draining, all soil types.
Sun: Full-sun / Part-shade.
Size:  50cm+ Grass.
Pots: Does well in pots.
Feeding: Feed a high-quality native plant food every 6 months, especially after flowering.

Murnong (Yam Daisy) is a native yam that was once very prevalent across Victoria. It is now endangered and can sometimes be found in secluded woodlands. They're very easy to grow, producing beautiful, yellow flowers and by adding this plant to your garden, you'll be helping secure its future in our ecosystem! The white tubers are nutritious and sweet tasting and has a distinct nutty flavour when roasted. They can be eaten raw or baked, mixed with other vegetables or turned into a paste for desserts!
